How to Prepare Your Vehicle for RORO Shipping
Proper preparation ensures a smooth loading process and avoids damage. Follow this checklist before your vehicle arrives at the port:
- Wash the exterior thoroughly so any existing dents or scratches are visible.
- Remove all personal belongings, loose items, and valuables.
- Disable the alarm system to prevent it from sounding during transit.
- Ensure the fuel tank is no more than ¼ full (less than 10 litres). Partially empty tanks reduce fire risk and comply with maritime safety regulations.
- Check tyre pressures are correct and the battery is secured.
- Fold in side mirrors if possible.
- For convertible vehicles, fully raise and lock the roof.
If your car has any fluid leaks, get them repaired before shipping. Leaking vehicles may be rejected at the terminal. Finally, keep an original copy of the vehicle registration card (the grant, or ‘geran’) and your identity card ready—you'll present these during check-in.

What Documents Are Required to Ship a Car to Labuan?
Shipping between Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan involves inter-state movement with customs clearance. You must present the following documents when dropping off the vehicle:
- Original Vehicle Registration Card (Geran) – confirm ownership. If the car is under hire-purchase, you need a letter of authorisation from the bank.
- Owner’s Identity Card (MyKad) or Passport – for verification.
- Customs Declaration Form (K1) – we assist with this; a customs agent will prepare it using your details.
- Puspakom Inspection Report – if the vehicle has been driven on Peninsular roads for more than 12 months, an inspection at Puspakom may be required to confirm VIN and roadworthiness.

Why your written quote may not match the figures above. Treat the numbers as from prices. Outbound cargo leaves Port Klang through two different terminals, Northport and Westports, and their tariffs are not identical even for the same vehicle class. The rate shown here takes the lower of the two, so whichever terminal actually has capacity on your sailing date can move the final figure.
Two other things shift the price. The return direction — Borneo back to Port Klang — carries its own tariff and is not a mirror of the outbound rate, so don't budget a round trip by doubling. And for pickups, vans, lorries and heavy machinery there is no published rate at all; those are quoted directly by an officer against your specific unit. Why Marine Insurance Is Quoted Separately
The shipping rate is port-to-port and excludes Marine Insurance. There is a straightforward reason for that: the premium is calculated from your vehicle's own Insured Value, so it cannot be bundled into a flat freight figure. A used hatchback and a luxury SUV cannot reasonably carry the same cover charge, even riding the same vessel. The premium is confirmed alongside your quote, which means you see both numbers — freight and cover — before you commit to anything.
The second point catches a lot of owners out. An ordinary comprehensive motor policy does not follow the car onto the vessel. Cover for the sea leg comes from a separate marine cargo policy, opened once per voyage rather than annually. If something does go wrong, note it on the collection form before you sign, and report it within 24 hours — that window is strict under ICC clauses. How Long Does Shipping Take?
Transit time is one of the most common questions we receive. The actual sea journey from Port Klang to Labuan takes approximately 10–14 days for standard-sized vehicles. However, total door-to-port-to-door time includes:
