Labuan is a Federal Territory off the coast of Sabah, known for its duty-free status and strategic offshore business hub. Many Malaysians choose to bring their own vehicle rather than buy locally, and shipping by sea is how the car gets there.

Labuan Is Container-Only — What That Means for You
We do not offer RoRo to Labuan, so do not look for a Labuan sailing on the RoRo ship schedule — Labuan departures are not listed there. Your car is loaded into a container instead, and the container travels from Port Klang to Labuan.
Three practical consequences follow. First, the handover is warehouse to warehouse: you deliver the car to our warehouse at the load port, and collect it at the destination port warehouse in Labuan. Second, the departure date and transit time are confirmed by our officer together with your quote, because container dates are not on the RoRo board. Third, a container can do what a RoRo deck cannot: personal effects may travel inside the car, packed and declared beforehand (details below).
Motorcycles are the one exception. They are not carried in containers, and with no RoRo service to Labuan we cannot currently ship a motorcycle there.
How to Prepare Your Vehicle for Container Shipping
Proper preparation ensures a smooth loading process and avoids damage. Follow this checklist before your vehicle arrives at our warehouse:
- Wash the exterior thoroughly so any existing dents or scratches are visible.
- Remove valuables. Personal effects are allowed in a container — up to 5 packages, packed inside the vehicle and declared beforehand — but foodstuff, electrical items, alcohol, plants, medication and flammable goods are prohibited.
- Disable the alarm system to prevent it from sounding during transit.
- Keep the fuel tank low — no more than ¼ full.
- Check tyre pressures are correct and the battery is secured.
- Fold in side mirrors if possible.
- For convertible vehicles, fully raise and lock the roof.
If your car has any fluid leaks, get them repaired before shipping. Finally, keep an original copy of the vehicle registration card (the grant, or ‘geran’) and your identity card ready—you'll present these at handover.

What Documents Are Required to Ship a Car to Labuan?
Shipping between Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan involves inter-state movement with customs clearance. You must present the following documents when handing over the vehicle:
- Original Vehicle Registration Card (Geran) – confirm ownership. If the car is under hire-purchase, you need a letter of authorisation from the bank.
- Owner’s Identity Card (MyKad) or Passport – for verification.
- Customs Declaration Form (K1) – we assist with this; a customs agent will prepare it using your details.
- Puspakom Inspection Report – if the vehicle has been driven on Peninsular roads for more than 12 months, an inspection at Puspakom may be required to confirm VIN and roadworthiness.
- Marine Insurance – mandatory for every car, calculated separately from its Insured Value.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Car to Labuan?
Labuan has one published rate card: container shipping, one way, per vehicle, from Port Klang to Labuan. There is no RoRo rate for Labuan, because there is no RoRo service to Labuan.
- Regular car (Axia, Saga, Vios, Civic): RM4,350
- SUV / Large (CR-V, X70): RM4,450
- Premium (high-value, classic and sports cars): RM4,850
- EV / Hybrid (Prius, Tesla, BYD): RM5,150
These rates exclude Marine Insurance, which is calculated from your vehicle's Insured Value. Vans and MPVs are quoted case by case: send the vehicle details first, and the rate is confirmed once loading is approved. Motorcycles are not carried in containers.

Why Marine Insurance Is Quoted Separately
The container rate excludes Marine Insurance. There is a straightforward reason for that: the premium is calculated from your vehicle's own Insured Value, so it cannot be bundled into a flat freight figure. A used hatchback and a luxury SUV cannot reasonably carry the same cover charge, even inside the same container service. It is mandatory for every vehicle. The premium is confirmed alongside your quote, which means you see both numbers — freight and cover — before you commit to anything.
The second point catches a lot of owners out. An ordinary comprehensive motor policy does not follow the car onto the vessel. Cover for the sea leg comes from a separate marine cargo policy, opened once per voyage rather than annually. If something does go wrong, note it on the collection form before you sign, and report it within 24 hours — that window is strict under ICC clauses. How Long Does Shipping Take?
Container departures to Labuan are not on our RoRo schedule, so we do not publish a fixed transit time for them. Our officer confirms the departure date and the expected arrival together with your quote. Total time from handover to collection also includes:
- Vehicle handover at our warehouse at Port Klang
- Customs clearance both at origin and destination
- Final collection from the port warehouse in Labuan
During peak seasons—such as Hari Raya, Gawai, or Kaamatan—request your quote early so the departure date fits your plans.
How to Book Your Shipment

- Hand Over at Our Warehouse – Bring your prepared vehicle and original documents to our warehouse at Port Klang on your scheduled date. Our crew inspects the car with you and loads it into the container.
- Collect in Labuan – Once the container arrives, you’ll be notified. Present your identification and collection slip at the port warehouse in Labuan.

Risks & Delays: What You Should Know
Delays happen, usually for reasons no one controls. The monsoon and rough seas can push sailings back, vessel schedules change at short notice, and port congestion slows unloading. Incomplete paperwork — especially the bank release letter for a financed vehicle — holds up clearance at the destination port.
To reduce that risk: book early around festive peaks, arrange the bank release letter in advance, and declare any added accessories at inspection. Our rates are port to port and exclude Marine Insurance — Marine Insurance is what covers your cargo's value in transit. We never promise a guaranteed arrival date; in transit, risk stays with the vehicle owner unless Marine Insurance is in place.

Is there a RoRo service to Labuan?
No. There is no RoRo service to Labuan. Cars go to Labuan by container only, from our warehouse at Port Klang to the port warehouse in Labuan.
Can I ship a car from Sabah or Sarawak to Labuan instead of from Peninsular Malaysia?
Our published container rates run between Port Klang and Labuan. A route from elsewhere in Sabah or Sarawak to Labuan has no published rate, so ask an officer through the quote form.
Can I ship a motorcycle to Labuan?
Not at the moment. Motorcycles are not carried in containers, and there is no RoRo service to Labuan.
Is Labuan considered an international or domestic shipment?
